Its Saturday. I was thinking of a place to go for lunch. A delicious looking ad popped up on the side of my browser. I just clicked it as it had tempting Gulab Jamun in it. The website gave me a buy one get one deal for a additional cost of Rs.25. I paid the money, got the deal and even called the place to check if the deal was true. My stomach started rumbling even before an hour. Chaat Bazaar, I see this place almost every day. I wanted to check it out. I did not have the time nor energy. The place has pics of delicious looking chats right from the hoarding to the doors. The inner wall surprisingly has photographs taken from different walks of life. This shows class. Most restaurants display mouth watering food pics to tempt us. But these photographs showed life and gave a different essence to the place.
We selected a seat overlooking the road. A glass of cold buttermilk with chaas was the first to arrive. I am not a buttermilk fan. Still I found it refreshing to the scorching heat. Next came the special thali. The thali looked exactly the same as the picture. No marketing gimmicks here.
The Kulcha was soft. The minute I dipped it in the paneer butter masala and took a bite. Yumm. It was delicious. The dhal was bland yet had a bit of chaat flavor to it. The mutter masala was good. I did not try it as I am not a big fan of peas. The potato masala was spicy. Not the screaming red hot spicy. But enough spice to balance the naan and rice. Rice cooked with pudina was a little dry. This tasted better with dahi and paneer. The Dahi boondi was not very katta and it tasted nice. Just because its named Chaat Bazzar, The chaat masala was a part of almost all dishes. It was not overpowering and gave a pleasant flavour to the food. The major attraction is the gulab jamun. I am a sweet addict and could not keep my spoon of it. The sweet was too sweet. Yet I enjoyed it. Its worth the buck. The buy one get one free is a added advantage.
Nice review Veani :)
